Austin’s favorable characteristics outweigh its unfavorable. One unfavorable characteristic that it just can’t shake is its slacker image. There’s much debate about its prevalence, and its cause, but there is no question that it exists. I frequently see examples where honest toil and professionalism take a back seat to just about everything else.
Here’s a recent example. I’ve got this buddy who works as a manager in the hotel industry. One of his employees just quit a front desk job via text message with no warning, no two-week notice, on a day he was scheduled to work. My buddy and his staff had to take double shifts to cover the slacker.
His reason for leaving, which is suspect for evidence not mention here, is not the focus. It’s the way he quit, and his choice of words. After reading his text I could only say: “That’s so Austin.” Here’s the text:
Slacker: Hey bro sorry to do this to you but i have some family problems and i have to stay in colorado for awhile.. sorry i guess this means im done there
